The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes Internal and External applications for the role of Facilities Laborer until midnight Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
Job Summary
This is service and maintenance work in performing maintenance within the Jacksonville International Airport Aviation Authority. Work requires the knowledge of work routines and procedures used in maintenance work which is learned on the job. The incumbent will have contact with passengers, visitors, and employees and will require basic courtesy and tact. The maintenance work is strictly routine, following specified instructions and established work routines involving similar situations. The work is performed inside where there are some risks and hazards, but they are known, predictable, and controllable. Operates power equipment, uses ladders, high lifts, and hazardous chemicals while performing routine equipment maintenance. The physical demands consist of walking, standing, sitting, and bending, exposure to dust, dirt, and other unpleasant conditions and lifting and repairing equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The work is performed under immediate supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures and routines. The work requires the ability to perform shift work (day, night, and overnight) as required, as well as assist other departments with facility or customer needs.
Essential Functions
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work in the operation of all airport facilities
- Assist with repairs and services of plumbing fixtures and related items.
- Assist in the performance of preventative maintenance, repairs on equipment, and component parts of all associated systems.
- Performs pressure washing of building and walkways.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Assist journeyman-level craft and trade staff
- Provides assistance to facilities attendants with high level dusting.
- Responsible for the cleaning of all building mechanical rooms, electrical rooms and IT rooms.
- Assists in stocking of supplies and parts.
- Assists other departments, move, and/or relocate furniture.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, and procedures used in maintenance work.
- Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, equipment common to construction, maintenance and repair.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make minors repairs to maintenance and cleaning tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical labor and duties and associated with maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to physically move and lift maintenance equipment and furniture.
- Ability to care for and operate various types of power and manual equipment used for maintenance.
- Ability to understand and analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Must possess a positive attitude, be focused on customer service, and be able to work well with others in a team environment.
Required Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or its equivalent; and
- One (1) year of maintenance work experience.
Licenses & Certifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
- Florida Class E Drivers License is required and must be maintained.
Physical Demands
The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, standing for extended periods of time and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
