We are currently seeking a DEPOT LEVEL Aircraft Structure Mechanics based in Jacksonville FL (Cecil Field). In this position, you will perform maintenance operations on F-18 aircraft, F-18 aircraft equipment, and F-18 components, and systems in accordance with DOD, manufacturer, company, supplier and other directives in support of aircraft modification.
Performs a variety of operations to assemble and make major assembly structures such as fuselage panels and bulkheads, and structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps, and stabilizers. Aligns parts on jigs using templates and fixtures. Performs such minor part-fitting operations as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming. Measures parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions. May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Working on fracture critical (safety of flight) components is part of the Aircraft Structure Mechanic 3 responsibilities.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least 4 years of aircraft DEPOT LEVEL maintenance experience
- Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret level security clearance once hired; and have the ability to maintain that clearance for continued employment
- Able to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
- Able to perform close tolerance assembly operations such as: shimming, fitting, trimming, and aligning where variances may occur considerably from one assembly to another as with fairings and the mating of major structural assemblies.
- Able to replace ribs, stiffeners, stringers in skinned assemblies establishing from blueprints with firm callouts, butt, center, chord, station and water lines.
- Able to setup and use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as: dial indicators, micrometers, gauges, protractors, and calipers, etc.
- Able to use common hand tools such as: drills, reamers, deburrers, files, rivet guns, bucking bars, etc.
- Able to assemble aircraft structures and associated components with the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, filing, filling, honing, reaming, counter-sinking, dimpling, burring and fastening.
- Able to blind pickup of hole locations for blank parts from existing structure. Also able to correct cans, buckles, wrinkles in outer skins
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fighter type aircraft maintenance experience
- A&P license
- U.S. Navy or USMC background
- Active Secret DoD clearance
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
